Roman Catholic Diocese of Amos

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Amos (French: Diocèse d'Amos, Latin: Dioecesis Amosensis) is a Roman Catholic diocese that covers part of the Province of Quebec. The diocese was erected by Pope Pius XI on 3 December 1938. Joseph-Aldée Desmarais was named its first bishop on 20 June 1939 by Pope Pius XII. It has a total area of 127,237 square miles (329,540 km²) and a total population of 115,000.<ref name=CH /^[1]

The diocese has been headed by Gilles Lemay, formerly an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Quebec, since his installation on April 15, 2011. He replaced the retiring bishop, Eugène Tremblay, who had reached the mandatory retirement age for bishops of 75.^[2]

The diocese has 35 priests, 47 Religious Sisters,^[3] and 91,600 Catholics (2012).^[2]
