Ronald Tutor is an American businessman and investor. He is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Tutor Perini, and President of the Tutor-Saliba Corporation.

Early life

Ronald Tutor is of Armenian descent.[1] His father, A.G. Tutor, founded A.G. Tutor Co., a real estate development company, in 1949.[2] The company built "houses and small commercial buildings".[2]

Tutor was educated at the Van Nuys High School.[2] He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1963.[3][4]

Career

Tutor started a career in construction shortly after graduation, working for Tutor-Saliba and A.G. Tutor Co.[4] He now serves as Chairman, CEO and President of Tutor Perini, and President of the Tutor-Perini Corporation.[4][5] He received the United States Army Corps of Engineers National Contractor of the Year Award for Civil Works Projects in 1994.[3]

In 2010, Tutor was a lead investor in the $650 million purchase of Miramax Films from The Walt Disney Company, investing between US$50 million and US$35 million.[6][7][8] In 2013, he sold his stake to the Qatar Investment Authority.[6][9]

Philanthropy

Tutor serves on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, USC.[5] The Ronald Tutor Campus Center and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering’s Tutor Hall on the USC campus are named in his honor.[3] He has received the Asa V. Call Alumni Achievement Award from USC.[3] He donated US$2 million to the USC Institute of Armenian Studies in 2008.[1] In 2014, his wife Alia endowed the Alia Tutor Chair in Reproductive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.[10]

Personal life

Tutor used to reside in a Tudor style 20,000-square-foot home with 3.39 acres of landscaped gardens, a lake, a tennis court, a swimming-pool and several hot tubs in the gated community of Hidden Hills, California, formerly rented by singer Britney Spears.[11] He owned the Pegasus V yacht.[12] He has three daughters from previous marriage and two sons with his wife, Alia.[2][10]
