Sakurambo-Higashine Station (さくらんぼ東根駅 Sakuranbo-Higashine-eki) is a JR East railway station located in Higashine, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.

Lines

Sakuranbo-Higashine Station is served by the Ōu Main Line and the Yamagata Shinkansen. It is located 113.5 rail kilometers from the terminus of the line at Fukushima Station.

Station layout

Sakuranbo-Higashine Station has two opposed side platforms and connected to the three-story station building by a footbridge. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office.

Surrounding area

Higashine is located in the central part of Yamagata Prefecture, in the Murayama Basin. The city counts as neighbors, Sendai City to the east and Yamagata City to the south and Tendo City. Higashine also abounds with rich nature and hot springs. Three national highways: National Route 13, National Route 48 and National Route 287 also pass nearby. Yamagata Airport is also located in the city, facilitating the traffic for high technology industries within the prefecture, making Higashine a major industrial center.[1]

The eastern view from the station affords a dramatic panorama of snow-capped mountains.[2]

History

The station began operation on December 4, 1999 as part of the Yamagata Shinkansen project. The station was absorbed into the JR East network upon the privatization of JNR on 1 April 1987.
