Sean Botkin

Sean Botkin is an American pianist.

Education

Washington University

Sean took his first piano lessons when he was five years old and a year before it appeared with Honolulu Symphony under Ernest Chang's guidance. As a resident of Seattle Washington he was enrolled into the University of Washington where he was taking lessons from Neal O’Doan. Under his guidance he played for both Seattle and Spokane symphonies and even was a participant of the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra. From 1987 to 1988 he was a student at the Aspen Music School where his teachers were Aube Tzerko and John Perry.^[1] From 1985 to 1986 he was a Tape Audition Winner.^[2]

Stanford University

From 1989 to 1995 studied with Martin Canin at the Bowdoin College and by summer of next year became a student at the University of Washington where he was taught by Craig Sheppard. Later on, he studied at Stanford University from where he was graduated withy Bachelor of Arts degree and where his teacher was Adolph Baller. Prior to graduation he served at the university's Symphony and the Palo Alto's both Chamber and Philharmonic Orchestras with whom he made a recording of the Johann Sebastian Bach's D minor concerto.^[1]

Juilliard School

He also attended and then graduated from Juilliard School^[3] with master of music degree where Martin Canin again was his teacher, and as if that wasn't enough, joined Professional Studies program. While still a student at Juilliard he obtained Gina Bachauer Scholarship and was a performer of the Piano Concerto No. 2 at Alice Tully Hall under a conduction of Carl St. Clair. His final degree was an Artist Diploma from the South Bend Indiana University after which he became a teacher at the Alexander Toradze's Piano Studio.^[1]

Awards and prizes

He was awarded many prizes at various international piano competitions such as Busoni, Cleveland, Dong-A, Gina Bachauer, William Kapell, Washington as well as World and International Music Competitions.^[1]
