Sematophyllaceae is a family of mosses. It includes 40 genera with a total of about 150 species.[1] They occur nearly worldwide, especially in tropical and temperate regions.[1] These mosses are known commonly as signal mosses.[2]

These species form yellow to yellow-green mats with reddish stems.[1] They grow on rocks in wet or humid places.[2]
