Shikha Joshi was an Indian model turned actress who is known for her role in the 2013 Hindi film B.A. Pass.[1]

Death

On the evening of 16 May 2015, Joshi committed suicide in her flat in Versova, Mumbai by slitting her throat with a kitchen knife in the bathroom. The flat owner Madhu Bharti and Joshi's friend Pushpa Parmar were present with Joshi at the flat during the incident.[2] Madhu Bharti recorded a video message on Parmar's mobile phone in which Joshi has named Dr. [Vijay] Sharma and "many married men" as responsible for her decision to commit suicide.[3][4][5] After the message was recorded, they called Joshi's husband Riyaz Pathan who arrived at the scene 10 minutes later, following which Joshi was taken to a nearby hospital.[6] According to an official, Joshi was taken to the hospital more than an hour after she had slit her throat.[7] The hospital stated that "excessive bleeding" was the cause of her death. The body was sent to Cooper Hospital which confirmed the death as suicide in its post-mortem report.[8]

Joshi had alleged Dr. Vijay Sharma, who had performed a breast implant surgery on her in 2006, of sexually exploiting her in 2011. The doctor had gone missing since her death,[9] until 20 May, when the Mumbai Police recorded a statement from him.[7] In his statement, Sharma said "I first met Shikha in 2005, when she came to my Khar clinic for breast and stomach surgery. She completed all formalities and even paid for the surgery. I gave her a five-year warranty for the procedure." He claimed that Joshi came back in 2011 demanding him to perform the surgery again, free of cost, which he refused and asked her to pay. He added that after this incident Joshi and her brother filed a molestation case against him and demanded 2 crore from him to take back the case. He also claimed that Joshi had tried to commit suicide in 2012 blaming him.[10] In November 2013, Joshi and her brother, Vishesh Joshi, were arrested for pelting stones at Sharma's residence in Andheri,[11] but were later released on bail. According to a police officer, Shikha Joshi was supposed to make a court appearance on 24 May 2015 in connection with the stone-pelting incident.[12]
