Southwest Medical University(Chinese: 西南医科大学 former Luzhou Medical College(Chinese: 泸州医学院), is a medical school located in Luzhou, Sichuan province, P. R. China. The school was first established in 1951 named as Southern Sichuan Doctors' School(Chinese: 川南醫士學校) at that time. In 1958, the school was renamed as Luzhou Specialist School in Medicine(simplified Chinese: 泸州医学专科学校; traditional Chinese: 瀘州醫學專科學校). In 1978, the school was authorized to grant bachelor's degree, and change its name in Luzhou Medical College(Chinese: 泸州医学院, Luyi(Chinese: 泸医 in short) correspondingly.

In 2015, the Luzhou Medical College was authorized to change its name into Sichuan Medical University. And the West China Medical Center of Sichuan University, which once was named as "Sichuan Medical College"(simplified Chinese: 四川医学院; traditional Chinese: 四川醫學院, "Chuanyi"simplified Chinese: 川医; traditional Chinese: 川醫 in short) between 1953 and 1985, think the new name of the Luzhou Medical College was too similar to its former name and claimed Luzhou Medical College to change its name. Finally, in 2016, the Luzhou Medical College changed its name into Southwest Medical university(Chinese: 西南医科大学), which unfortunately Provokes Third Military Medical University's(once called Southwest Medical University shortly in the 1950's) dissatisfaction.
