Stratford town council

Stratford Town Council is the legislative body of Stratford, Connecticut. The ten-member council is elected every two years, with members elected by geographical district. The Town Council appoints one of its members to serve as Chairman. The Town Council sets policy through the enactment of ordinances and resolutions, which must be signed or vetoed by the Mayor.[1]

The 2015-2017 Town Council has 7 Democrats and 3 Republicans; its members are as follows:

Beth Daponte currently serves as Council Chair.[2]

Long standing issues

One of the oldest issues confronting the council has been the vacant American Shakespeare Theatre, which has been closed since the mid-1980s.[3]
