Talking Footy is an Australian rules football chat show appearing on the Seven Network. The show is hosted by Luke Darcy.
New Format
In March 2014 the Seven Network re-instated the series, which now airs Monday nights at 7.30pm on 7mate in VIC, SA & WA. Then the show is shown on Tuesday morning at around 1.00am in NSW & QLD. The show is hosted by Luke Darcy with Tim Watson, Wayne Carey and Sam McClure. The show is broadcast from Seven Melbourne Studios HSV7.
Original Format (1994-2002)
It first appeared on TV from 1994 until 2003. The show was a creation of Channel 7 Director of Sport at the time Gary Fenton. The show was hosted by Bruce McAvaney from 1995-1998, Tim Lane in 1999 and Gerard Healy in 2000,Bruce McAvaney again hosted from 2001-2003. Regular couch members included Mike Sheahan, Malcolm Blight, Terry Wallace, Caroline Wilson and Leigh Matthews. It was initially screened Monday nights at 8:30 in 1995, then it was screened on Monday nights at 10.30pm for the remainder of it run.
Parodies
In 2005, comedian Andrew Startin appeared on rival network Channel Nine with a send-up of the show on The Footy Show. Gary Ayres was sent up with his catchphrase "at the end of the day" and "You've got your Buckleys, your Hirds, your Ricciutos"; Mike Sheahan with "what do you think?"; and Bruce McAvaney with "Special!".
Theme song
The lyrics to the song are as follows:

When the show switched to a Tuesday night timeslot (which led to its demise), the lyrics changed somewhat. During the 2014 relaunch, only the second verse is used.
In the first season, the theme song was Monday's Experts by Weddings, Parties, Anything.
