Teachers is an American comedy television series on TV Land. It is based on the web series of the same name by the improv group The Katydids (all members of the group by coincidence have the first name Kate as a root name), and is written by the six members of the group who also play teachers at the Chicago-area Fillmore Elementary School.[1] The 10-episode series premiered on January 13, 2016.[2][3] On March 3, 2016, TV Land renewed Teachers for a 20-episode second season,[4] which is scheduled to premiere in January 2017.[5]

- Caitlin Barlow[1] as Cecilia Cannon, a decidedly liberal teacher who frequently tries to rally the others to join protests or support causes.
- Katy Colloton[1] as Chelsea Snap, an extremely narcissistic teacher who sleeps around and is obsessed with her own beauty.
- Cate Freedman[1] as AJ Feldman, a somewhat lazy teacher whose classes are frequently out of control.
- Kate Lambert[1] as Caroline Watson, a relatively competent teacher who is unlucky at love, which causes her to sometimes lose perspective.
- Katie O’Brien[1] as Mary Louise Bennigan, an extreme religious conservative who is depicted as a somewhat naïve teacher.
- Kathryn Renée Thomas[1] as Deb Adler, an antisocial, often angry teacher who was an outcast back in her own school days.

Development and production
Teachers is based on the web series of the same name, created by and starring improv group The Katydids.[6] TV Land ordered a pilot on March 19, 2014, with The Katydids reprising their roles from the web series.[7] Alison Brie executive produces alongside The Katydids and Matt Miller. Ian Roberts and Jay Martel have signed on as showrunners,[8] with Richie Keen directing the series' pilot.[9] TV Land picked up the show to series on October 1, 2014 with a 10-episode order.[10]

| A zealous administrator has determined it's a good practice to get teachers out of their comfort zones and assign them to various extra-curricular duties. He puts Cecilia and Caroline in charge of the school's Field Day, and assigns Deb and AJ to help them. | Deb has difficulty recruiting parent volunteers for lunch room duty, until a pornographic video surfaces with a dominatrix character that looks like her. The next day, several fathers show up to volunteer, hoping Deb will "whip" them into shape. Meanwhile, Mary Louise is preparing to do stand-up comedy for her church's talent show and tries out her material on the other teachers, who are too nice to tell her the jokes are completely unfunny. | ||||||

| As the school year comes to a close, Cecilia and Chelsea question the impact they have on their students. After hearing that the district plans to terminate a teaching position, the teachers try to track-down a drunken Mary Louise before it's too late. Elsewhere, Caroline is offended when she isn't invited to Deb's summer barbeque, and AJ has to deal with a handful of parent complaints when she assigns random grades to her students. | ||||||
Release
The first episode was released on demand on December 15, 2015, before the broadcast debut on January 13, 2016.[21][22][2]
Internationally, the series premiered in Australia on The Comedy Channel on October 24, 2016.[23]
Critical reception
Teachers has received positive reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes awarded the series with a rating of 69% based on reviews from 13 critics and an average rating of 6.0 out of 10. The site's critical consensus reads: "Teachers struggles with the transition from web series to television, but gets some good marks for humor."[24] On Metacritic, the series received a score of 66% based on reviews from 10 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[25]
