Thiago Ribeiro Cardoso (born 24 February 1986), commonly known as Thiago Ribeiro, is a Brazilian footballer who plays for Bahia on loan from Santos as a forward.

Club career

Born in Pontes Gestal, São Paulo state, Thiago started his career at Rio Branco (SP). He was loaned to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux for 2004–05 season, along with Adonis Soares Pavani.[1] On 1 August 2005 he was signed by São Paulo where he played 1½ seasons. He won Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in his second Série A season, in 2006.

Al Rayyan

On 2 January 2007 he left for Uruguayan side Rentistas,[2] which de facto controlled by his agent. He was loaned to Al Rayyan (and bought half of his rights) and he scored a goal in 2007 AFC Champions League.[3]

Cruzeiro

On 29 August 2008, Thiago returned to Brazil, signed a 5-year contract with Cruzeiro[4] (but loaned from Rentistas) A investment group bought back the 50% economic rights for US$2 million for Cruzeiro.[5]

Thiago became top-scorer of 2010 Copa Libertadores.

Cagliari

Thiago Ribeiro playing for Santos.

On 16 August 2011 he was borrowed by Cagliari from Rentistas for €3,353,500 with option to purchases.[6][7][8][9] He scored his first goal for the club in a game against Novara which they won 2–1.

On 3 July 2012 Cagliari bought Thiago outright for another €2,120,000.[10][11] Cagliari had paid Rentistas a total of €5,473,500 for Thiago.

Santos

On 19 July 2013, Thiago returned to his country, signing a four-year deal with Santos FC,[12][13] for €3,325,000 transfer fee (R$ 10.814 million plus other fee).[14][15]

In his presentation at his new club, Ribeiro said that "It is very good to come in a great club as Santos FC, with directors' trust. This is a factor that helps a lot, coming in a new club. Everything was right to come here, I am so glad and I hope to repay it playing, to help Santos to target them objectives."[16] Despite appearing regularly during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns, he was transfer listed by the club in February 2015.[17]

Atlético Mineiro

On 8 April 2015 Ribeiro was loaned to fellow league team Atlético Mineiro until May 2016.[18] He quickly established himself as a first-team player, ending the 2015 season with 36 appearances and 9 goals, helping Atlético finish as runner-ups in Série A.

In the 2016 pre-season, Ribeiro made two appearances in the Florida Cup, of which Atlético were crowned champions. He then picked up an injury and spent the next month recovering. In March, following the signings of Robinho and Hyuri, Ribeiro fell down the pecking order and mutually terminated his loan contract with Atlético two months before its expiry.
