Thomas Mower McDougall
Thomas Mower McDougall (21 May, 1845 – 3 July, 1909) was an officer in the United States Army who took part in the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Biography
McDougall was born on May 21, 1845 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.[1] His father was Charles McDougall. McDougall would marry a woman named Alice, who died in 1920. He would pass away on July 3, 1909 in Brandon, Vermont. Both he and Alice are buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
His brother-in-law was Edwin Burr Babbitt.
Career
McDougall originally jointed the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. Battles he served in included the Siege of Vicksburg. Following the war he accepted a commission in the 14th Infantry Regiment in the United States Army. Later he was assigned to the 7th Cavalry Regiment. On June 25, 1876 he was in command of Company B of the 7th Cavalry, escorting the pack train. When fighting broke out his company would engage in battle with the battalion commanded by Marcus Reno. Following the battle McDougall would remain in the Army until he retired as a Major in 1904.
