As an economist, Usman W. Chohan has made substantive contributions to national policies in both Australia[26] and Canada.[27][28] He is a leading authority in a specialized subfield of Legislative Studies known as Parliamentary Fiscal Scrutiny.[29][30] For his work on intergenerational economics,[31][32][33] and the Panama Papers [34] he has been ranked among “Australia’s 50 Top Thinkers.” [35][36] Usman W. Chohan has brought advances to the Theory of Public Value[37][38] and Presidentialisation Theory.[39] His work has been cited in national debates in Canada on economic reforms of parliamentary institutions.[40] Usman has been affiliated with the World Bank[41][42][43] and the World Economic Forum.[44] He has also undertaken the most comprehensive study of legislative budget reform in post-war Iraq.[45][46][47] Usman W. Chohan has also conducted financial market studies to identify market inefficiencies brought about by disruptive technical innovation.[48][49][50][51][52] He is the current Chief Financial Officer of Taqanu, a financial intermediary bringing financial inclusion and banking services to refugees victims of the European migrant crisis.[53][54]

Hyperpolyglotism and Ethnomusicology

Chohan is the president of the International Association of Hyperpolyglots,[55] the world’s leading independent organisation for hyperpolyglots (fluent speakers of more than six languages) and has demonstrable fluency in ten languages.[56] Usman Chohan also produced the first translation of the Art of War into the Urdu language.[57] He is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal The Polyglotica Review.[58] He is a regular commentator on economic issues in Australia in various languages, notably through Australia's multilingual SBS Radio.[59][60][61][62]

Usman W. Chohan is one of the world’s leading sitar players, cited by Harvard’s ethnomusicology department [63] and by Argentina’s Borges Center for the Performing Arts[64] for his contributions to intercultural fusions through the medium of Sitar. His Sitar work has focused on études that meld orchestral elements from hybrid musical traditions. His research on the Economics of the Arts has also advocated greater government spending in Australia on the creative industries, as a vehicle for multifaceted economic growth.[65][66]

Family

Usman W. Chohan is the son of two Pakistani Ambassadors, Naela Chohan and Musa Javed Chohan. Naela Chohan has been Pakistan’s ambassador to Oceania and to Latin America. Musa Javed Chohan has been Pakistan’s ambassador to France, Canada, Malaysia, and UNESCO.
