Walter Paine is an American author, journalist, and publisher. He purchased the Valley News of Lebanon, New Hampshire in the 1950s with partner James D. Ewing (publisher of The Keene Sentinel for many years)[1] and served as editor and publisher of the paper for twenty-four years.[2]

In 1957 in his role as Valley News editor he mounted an investigation into the transparency and practices of the managers of the town of Lebanon that led to the shift to a town council form of government there.[3]

In 2006 his children's book Cousin John: The Story of a Boy and a Small Smart Pig was published by Bunker Hill.[2]
