West Stanly High School is a public high school located at 306 East Red Cross Rd. in Oakboro, North Carolina, United States.

The school is part of the Stanly County Schools school district. Its official mascot is the Colts.

History

In 1962, four county high schools — Stanfield, Ridgecrest, Oakboro and Endy — combined to form what is known as West Stanly High School.[1] A committee of the principals and students from those original four high schools met and decided to name the school after the horses, colts. The class of 1963 was the first graduating class.

West Stanly Middle School

In 2012, Stanly County Schools made West Stanly Middle School, as well as North and South. It was formed out of Running Creek Elementary, as well as Ridgecrest Elementary, both of which closed. Started as only a 7-8 school, WSMS added 6th grade the following school year 2013-2014. West Stanly Middle School is the feeder school for West Stanly High School and is also called the "Colts"
