Xenokleides

Xenokleides was Athenian poet of the 4th century BCE. None of his works have survived. He was one of the hetaera Neaira's lovers.[1] According to Apollodorus of Acharnae, 369 BCE, he spoke out against Callistratus's request to support Sparta over Thebes.[2] He was prosecuted for avoiding military service, convicted, and disenfranchised (Ancient Greek: ἀτιμία, atimia), though Apollodorus claims that he was exempt.[2] Afterwards, he went to Macedonia in exile, but returned to Athens in 342 BC upon the advance of Philip II.
