Xou da Xuxa is the second studio album by singer, TV host and actress Xuxa. It was released on 30 June 1986, along with her television program in Globo.

The LP was sales record with more than 2.6 million copies, becoming the best-selling album in Brazil and South America.[1]

Background

In October 1985, Xuxa was invited by the TV Globo to present a similar children's program with the Clube da Criança in Rede Manchete. She was already well known since 1982, when he began a relationship with the footballer Pelé. His contract with Globo, including the strengthening of his career as a singer - Xuxa had released two LPs at the time working on TV Manchete - and a TV show lasting four hours each day, plus a higher salary and participation in sales of licensed products.[2]

On June 30, 1986 the television program Xou da Xuxa debuted on Globo. Along with it, the TV host also launched his second studio album, but the first by Som Livre, which carried the same name. Coupled with the success of the TV show, Xou da Xuxa was a sales record at the time, with more than 2.5 million copies, surprising expectations. In an interview to the portal UOL, the producer Guto Graça Mello reported that, for this album, no composer wanted to give his songs. With the resounding success after the release of the disc, the situation has reversed dramatically.[3]

Release and reception

Xou da Xuxa hit stores in July 1986. In the first week were 100,000 albums sold. A week later, 250,000.[4] In total were 2,689,000 copies - surpassing all records released in Brazil that year, becoming album best seller in the country.[5][6] In 1995, the album was re-released on CD with two tracks: Parabéns da Xuxa and Papai Noel de Baixinhos.[7]

In 2013, Som Livre re-released the album as part of the "Coleção Xou da Xuxa" (from 1 to 7) and another unpublished CD with a selection of music made by their fans.[8]
