YogaWorks is a Santa Monica based, privately held yoga studio, chain and retailer.[2] It was founded in California in 1987.[3]

History

Yogaworks was founded by two yoga teachers, Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller.[1] Phil Swain became the company's CEO in 2005.[4] In 2007 Yogaworks had 14 locations in the states of California and New York[5] and by 2008 the company had expanded to 21 yoga studios.[1] In 2014, the company and its 29 yoga studios were purchased by Great Hill Partners for $45 million.[4][6] As of 2015 the company had 40 yoga studios including two in the Boston area which it acquired that year.[3] In 2015 the company said it had plans for further expansion into San Diego, San Francisco, New York City, Boston and Washington DC.[6]

The company offers yoga classes and sells yoga clothing and accessories. YogaWorks also offers training programs for yoga teachers. Some locations offer juice bars and spa-like amenities. Its classes are accessed exclusively through a membership fee program.[7]
