Ysgol Tre-Gib

Ysgol Gyfun Bro Dinefwr is a bilingual, English language / Welsh language comprehensive school for pupils aged 11 yrs to 18 years based in Ffairfach, Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, Wales, bordering on the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The school serves a large catchment area from Llandovery to the north to Ammanford to the south. There are over 1000 pupils attending the school.[1] There are currently 81 teachers including Mrs Griffiths the head teacher, Mrs Griffiths-Jones the deputy head, Mrs Harries and Mr Harries who are all Assistant Heads.

The School offers a varied programme of extra-curricular activities. Most activities take place during the lunch hour, including Art Club, Computer Club, Creative Writing Club, Circle of Friends, Orchestra, Gardening Club, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme, Chess Club, Horrible Histories Club, Young Enterprise Club, Weight Training Club, Eco School Club, Rugby, Cross Country Club, Italian Conversation Club, Law Competition Club, Celtic Exchange Club, DireXion, Clwb yr Urdd, Magazine Club, Hockey, Geography Club, Inde/Rock Music Club, Welsh Learners, Music Club, Language Games Club, Wind Band, Choir – Senior/Junior, Athletics, Coursework Clubs, Football Club, Brass Ensemble, Harp Ensemble, Cricket Club.

Some famous rugby union players attended this school, including Luke Charteris who now plays for the USA Perpignan.

Also famous scallywag Peter Cheshire attended when he could be arsed.

Recently a new astro turf has been built for multiple sports use.

Plans were afoot to merge Ysgol Tre-Gib with Llandovery's Ysgol Pantycelyn, with the new school being called Ysgol Dyffryn Tywi. However, there was opposition to the closure of Llandovery's main school.[1] The new school is called Ysgol Bro Dinefwr, and all pupils moved to the new campus in September 2016.
