Zhang Yishan (born 5 May 1992) is a Chinese child star and actor.[1]

Zhang is noted for his roles as Liu Xing in the family sitcom Home with Kids, and the protagonist in the crime thriller Yu Zui.

Life

Early life

Zhang was born and raised in Dongcheng District, Beijing.[2] When he was 5, his father sent him to Shichahai Martial Arts School to study Kung Fu.

Zhang entered Beijing Film Academy in 2011, majoring in acting.[2]

Acting career

Zhang began his career by appearing in small role in Little Soldier Zhang Ga at the age of 9.[2] Under the recommendation of his co-star Li Yingqi, Zhang went to audition for a role in Home with Kids, and successfully earned the role of Liu Xing. The same year, he starred in the metropolitan romance drama Who Pays for Love as the male lead's overlord son.

In 2004, Zhang starred in the sitcom television series Home with Kids, alongside Yang Zi.[2][3] The series was one of the most watched ones in mainland China in that year and Zhang earned critical acclaim.[2] Zhang went on to reprise his role as Liu Xing in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th season of the sitcom.

In 2006, Zhang filmed his first historical costume drama Chuan Zheng Feng Yun. The following year, he filmed the comedy series In the Wildest Fantasy and Born After 1980, where he played a 17 year old orphan who reluctantly gets along with his father's second wife after his death.

In 2008, Zhang filmed his first movie, Slam, portraying a basketball player. In 2009, he co-starred with Jackie Chan in the action-comedy film Looking for Jackie, as a young boy who who sets on a journey to meet his idol due to his love for martial arts. The same year, he reunited with his Home with Kids co-stars in the television drama Don't Want to Grow Up.

In 2010, Zhang had a supporting role in Bruce Lee, My Brother, a Hong Kong biographical martial arts drama film starring Aarif Rahman as the titular Bruce Lee.

In 2011, Zhang joined the variety program Let's Shake It. He won the championship for the final round. The same year, he played the character Deng Enming in The Founding of a Party, a Chinese Communist Party member who was killed by the Kuomintang in 1931 in Ji'nan, Shandong.[4] He also participated in the disaster film Southern Snow.

In 2012, Zhang once again starred alongside Yang Zi in the family drama Dad Comes Home. He also starred in his first contemporary drama, Star City, as well as the war revolution drama Little Tigers, the adult romance drama Love You Most and the romantic comedy All For Love.

In 2013, Zhang starred in another war drama, Series of the Big Foot Soldiers. He also won the New Performer Award at the Golden Phoenix Awards.[5]

In 2014, Zhang had a supporting role in Money Game, a Chinese comedy film starring Lee Seung-hyun, Zhang Lanxin, and Liu Hua. He also had a role in the family drama Childbearing Age. He was then cast alongside Park Ha-sun and He Yunwei in the comedy film Escape Route. Filming began on 10 October 2014, and it was scheduled for release on 14 September 2016.

In 2015, Zhang starred in Melting Pot, a military series about the War of Resistance Against Japan. He was named as one of the "Top 10 Influential Figures Born After the 90s"; he ranked 5th. The same year, he wrapped up filming for the suspense film Isolated Island, and was cast in the farm-themed series Green Valley.

Zhang rose to prominence in 2016 for playing Yu Zui in the crime thriller web drama series Yu Zui, based on Chang Shuxin's popular novel. The series received over 450 million hits when it aired in the online video platform iQiyi,[6][7] and earned critical acclaim from the audience. The same year, he starred in war drama My Father, My Soldier.

He was then cast in the youth idol drama Chong Er's Preach. He was also cast in the Chinese remake of the Korean series Kill Me, Heal Me and 10 Years of Spring Wind Can’t Compare to You, based on the novel Beijing Beijing. He then participated in the filming of Home with Kids: Initial Growth, the sequel to Home with Kids.
