The Swan River Pedestrian Bridge is an under construction bridge over the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia. It will provide pedestrian access between Burswood and East Perth. The bridge will connect visitors to the Burswood Peninsula, including the Perth Stadium, with public transport and car parks in East Perth and the central business district.[1]

The bridge will use a steel cable-stay design, akin to a suspension bridge, with just two piers in the river bed to minimise the effect on the river. The structure will reach a maximum height of 65 metres (213 ft), and have a length of 400 metres (1,300 ft) between the banks of the river, with a 160-metre-long (520 ft) central span.[2] The total length will be 560 metres (1,840 ft), and at the East Perth end a 100-metre (330 ft) ramp will direct users away from nearby residences.[3] The appearance will resemble a Wagyl, dolphin, serpent, or ribbon.[2][4][5]

The estimated expense of $54 million (as of June 2015) is, on a per-metre basis, one third of the cost of Adelaide's Riverbank Footbridge.[6]

In February 2014, the government called for expressions of interest for the design and construction of the bridge.[7][8] Four parties were shortlisted to bid:[9][10]

In June 2015, the contract was awarded to the York Civil/Rizzani de Eccher joint venture.[11][12] Construction commenced in November 2015, with completion scheduled for late 2016.[13]
