General elections were held in Barbados on 13 December 1951,^[1] the first held under universal suffrage. The result was a victory for the Barbados Labour Party, which won 15 of the 24 seats. Voter turnout was 64.6%.^[1]

In this year Edna Ermyntrude Bourne, D.A., was the first woman to be elected as a member of the House of Assembly. She represented the Parish of St. Andrew until 1961.

One year later Queen Elizabeth II was ascended to the Throne on the death of her father, George VI.
