Footnotes Coordinates[2]

Beatty is a rural locality in the Murray and Mallee region of South Australia, situated in the Mid Murray Council.[1] It was established in March 2003, when boundaries were formalised for the "long established local name".[2] It consists of approximately the northern half of the cadastral Hundred of Beatty. The Hundred of Beatty was originally proclaimed on 15 March 1883 as the Hundred of Krichauff, but renamed on 10 January 1918 after Admiral David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty as part of the mass renaming of place-names of German origin during World War I.[3]

The adjacent town of Mount Mary, which covers the south of the Hundred of Beatty, was formerly known as Beatty until 1940, when it was renamed to match the name of the local railway station.[4]
