Brideswell, County Roscommon

Brideswell is a small village located in South Roscommon in the Republic of Ireland.

Education

There is a primary school in Brideswell called Brideswell National School. The school is a three teacher school and caters for children from junior infants to sixth class. The school normally has between 60 and 70 pupils enrolled every school term

Tourism

The main tourist attraction in Brideswell is the local Holy Well which is located next to the school. Many people visit this well every year and the local people are very proud of this well.

Facilities

The village provides many facilities for visitors. There are two Public houses in the village called Hamrocks and O'Connells. At the end of the village on the road towards neighbouring Eskerbane there is a post office which is widely used by the public and is open every weekday. Adjacent to the post office there is a handball alley located. This alley has been worn down in recent years and is used by the locals very sparingly these days. In the past few years the local shop called O'Connells closed down. This shop used to provide fresh soup,sandwiches,cold deli,food,cold drinks,hot drinks,wines and spirits and much more for the local people on a daily basis.

Sport

The nearest sport team to the village is the local soccer team called Cam Celtic who play their home matches in the nearby Community Centre. Gaelic Football is widely played by the locals and the local team is St. Brigids (Roscommon) GAA. Handball is also widely played by the locals in the handball alley located in nearby Curraghboy.

Pattern

The Pattern is an annual event held in the village where people attend a mass ceremony in the morning and then afterwards have craic with the local people of the village. The event is held on the last Sunday of July each year.
