It operates as train number 13009 from Howrah Junction to Dehradun and as train number 13010 in the reverse direction serving the state of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand and is one of two trains that connect Howrah & Dehradun, the other train being the 12327 / 28 Upasana Express.

Traction

As the route is partly electrified, it is hauled by a Howrah based WAP 4 from Howrah Junction until Mughalsarai Junction handing over to a Lucknow or Tughlakabad based WDM 3A which powers the train for the remainder of the journey.

Accidents

On 31 May 2012, 5 people died and 50 were injured when the train derailed at Mahrawa station.[1]

On 28 April 2014, the Doon Express derailed close to Zafarganj Station near Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh killing 3 and injuring 6 people.
