From 1969 she saw service in the Far East as part of the Sixth Squadron (MCM6). In 1972 she rejoined MCM1 where she remained until 1982. HMS Kirkliston was decommissioned on 2 December 1985 and was sold for scrap on 20 October 1991.

One of her sister ships, HMS Bronington, has been preserved and is berthed at Birkenhead, Merseyside, England, as part of the former Warship Preservation Trust.
