New York State Court Officers are peace officers who are charged with providing security services and maintaining order within court facilities statewide. Court officers also execute bench warrants and make arrests both on and off duty.
Training
New York State Court Officers undergo a peace officer training academy at one of two New York State Court Officer academies which are located in New York City and Castleton-on-Hudson. The academy includes training in criminal and civil procedure law, police science, powers of a peace officer, firearms training, defensive tactics, radio use, arrest procedures, gang intelligence, and first aid /CPR
The New York State Court Officers Academy was founded by Chief Thomas R. Hennessy.
Power and Authority
New York State Court Officers are New York State peace officers and are authorized to execute bench warrants, issue summonses, carry and use firearms, batons, pepper spray, handcuffs, and use physical and deadly force.[1] New York State Court Officers have peace officer status both on-duty and off-duty.
Vehicles
New York State Court Officers currently utilize fully marked, Ford Interceptors, Chevrolet Impalas, Dodge Chargers, Chevrolet Suburbans, and Chevrolet Expresses in their vehicle fleet.[2]
Equipment
New York State Court Officers are authorized to carry firearms, expandable baton, handcuffs, flashlight, bullet resistant vest, pepper spray, and a radio that is directly linked to other officers.
