San José is a localidad (district) located in the south of Lomas de Zamora Partido in Buenos Aires Province, it forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires conurbation.

The neighborhood traces its origins to 1948, when a region of semi-rural terrain between Temperley and Quilmes was developed. The area experienced a large population increase until around 1975 which was one of the largest population increases in the history of Greater Buenos Aires.

Between 2003 and 2005 residents protested about a mobile telephone mast, due to health concerns including the fear of cancer.
