Communes in the proposed metropolitan zone
According to Eurostat, in 2011, Timișoara had a Larger Urban Zone of 393,321 residents on an area of 1281 km2. The Metropolitan Zone of Timișoara is an undergoing project for the creation of an administrative unit to integrate Timișoara with the nearby communes: Dumbrăviţa, Ghiroda, Moșnița Nouă, Moșnița Veche, Giroc, Chișoda, Sânmihaiu Român, Săcălaz, Sânandrei, Giarmata, Orțișoara, Remetea Mare, Șag, Bechicherecu Mic, Dudeștii Noi and Parța.
