The 1964 United States presidential election in Mississippi was held on November 3, 1964. The state showed Republican candidate Barry Goldwater's best performance in the 1964 election. He defeated the Incumbent President Johnson by a margin of 74.28 percentage points, giving Goldwater 7 electoral votes. Goldwater won all of Mississippi's 82 counties, some by over 90%.^[1] Goldwater's opposition to the Civil Rights Act appealed to the southern United States, and won him most states in the Deep South. He lost the general election to Johnson, who won with 61% of the national vote.
