Columbus is a village in Adams County, Illinois, United States. The population was 99 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Quincy, ILMO Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Columbus is located at 39°59′17″N 91°8′51″W / 39.98806°N 91.14750°W / 39.98806; -91.14750 (39.988141, -91.147503).[2]

According to the 2010 census, Columbus has a total area of 0.25 square miles (0.65 km2), all land.[3]

As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 112 people, 42 households, and 34 families residing in the village. The population density was 444.5 people per square mile (173.0/km²). There were 51 housing units at an average density of 202.4 per square mile (78.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.64% White and 5.36% African American.

There were 42 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.6% were married couples living together, 4.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% were non-families. 14.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the village the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 107.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $38,438, and the median income for a family was $38,125. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $15,417 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,429. There were 5.6% of families and 5.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 8.3% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.

Wireless internet service became available in June 2012 from Airwave-Communications of Quincy, Illinois for local residents.
