Syria, Indiana

Syria is an unincorporated community in Orange County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.[1]

History

A post office was established at Syria in 1880, and remained in operation until 1904.[2] The community probably took its name from Syria, in Western Asia.[3] Locals, however, pronounce the name "sorry" or "sigh-ree," as opposed to the traditional pronunciation of the country.
